Matching Why Buy Racers with their Boats

July 4, 2019 by Larry Moreland

Can’t score Why Buy racers unless the skippers are matched with the boat names.  Why Buy boats must pass on the skipper’s name to the Race Committee boat when checking in prior to the race.  But there still is miscommunication in getting the right names on the race scoring sheet.

To solve this problem, a “Why Buy Skipper to Boat Match” Google spreadsheet has been added to this website.  It is located in the SERIES RACING pull down menu located right above this post.  After selecting this in the menu, you can enter the skipper and boat name for each race.

Why Buy racers should enter this info as soon as possible after each race to make sure they are scored correctly.  Most races are scored and posted within 24 hours.

If you have any questions, contact the scorer at scorer@csyc.org

CSYC 2019 Sailing Dinghy Program or Time to start thinking about Sailing in Colorado!

April 30, 2019 by Larry Moreland

This morning, as I was wandering from clock to clock “springing” the time ahead one hour, the thought hit me that Spring in Colorado will begin heading our way soon. A long glance out the window filled my eyes with a big blue sky and a moderate breeze – a perfect morning to head to Chatfield reservoir to catch the wind and glide across the water in a sailboat. Then reality set in and I remembered the thick layer of ice still on the lake. No sailing just yet…however it is time to begin planning and preparing for the 2019 Sailing season around Denver’s front range.

Those “salty dogs” that have sailed for years know the Spring drill of getting your boats. For those of us who are new to the sport or would like to discover what sailing is about, this is the time of the year to begin planning for a season of sailing in Colorado! Are you someone who has a small sailboat tucked into the garage, barn or storage shed? Or are you someone who has sat on the shore of a lake and watched as sailboats glided gracefully though the water and wondered what it would be like to be on a sailboat? Are you a couple who have sailed before kids and now want to introduce your children to the sport? This is the time of year for all of us; young, old, families and couples to put sailing into your Spring and Summer plans.

What to do? Where to go? What’s required? Join a sailing dinghy program!
The Colorado Sail and Yacht Club (CSYC) along with Colorado Watersports (CWS) will be hosting a sailing dinghy kickoff meeting at Chatfield reservoir – Roxborough Cove, on Saturday May 18, 2019 at 8:30AM. The intent is to provide information, introduce what a sailing dinghy is and encourage those with dinghies to get them out of their storage locations and into the water!

More details will follow but in the meantime on these bright sunny breezy mornings start thinking about your plans for sailing in Colorado this season. Soon we will be on the water feeling the joy of having the wind pull us effortlessly across the water!

Update on 2019 CSYC Racing

April 6, 2019 by Larry Moreland

Our 2019 racing season will be delayed due to the construction at Chatfield State Park. The completion of the marina slips and the south boat ramp is required before we can start racing.  Also a minimum of a weekend will be needed to allow boat owners to launch and rig their boats.   Currently the estimated date for completion of the marina slips and south boat ramp is June 1, 2019.  This would set June 5, 2019 as the first race of the Spring Series.  If the completion dates slip, the start of the Spring Series will also slip.

The shorten Spring Series will run to June 26.  The Race Committee will be encouraged to run a second race on the long days in June.  After the break for Fourth of July week, the Summer Series will run from July 10 to September 11.  The Fall Series will run Sunday afternoons from September 15 to October 20.

Stay tune to this website for updates to the schedule.
